Daily Check-In – “Check-In with Me” (One Step at a Time)
Purpose:
Build emotional literacy by noticing, naming, and reflecting on everyday emotions, developing awareness of your body, thoughts, and responses.
Suggested Tool: Body Scan or Quick Mindful Pause – check in with bodily sensations before and after writing.
Affirmation: “I notice my emotions with curiosity and care.”
Step 1 – What Happened Today?
"Think of a moment today when you felt a strong emotion. Describe the situation: where you were, who was there, and what happened."
Write freely, setting the scene as if you’re telling a story. The goal is to capture context and details, not just the emotion itself.
Reflection Prompt: “What can noticing the context teach me about triggers and patterns in my emotions?”
Step 2 – Body Awareness
"Where did you feel this emotion in your body?"
Pay attention to physical sensations—tightness, tension, energy, warmth, or fluttering. Write a full paragraph exploring how your body responds to the emotion.
Reflection Prompt: “How do these bodily cues help me understand and track my emotional patterns?”
Step 3 – Thoughts & Impulses
"What thoughts, urges, or impulses came up along with this emotion?"
Explore what your mind wanted to do or say in response. Did you notice any automatic reactions or judgments? Write in detail.
Reflection Prompt: “How do these thoughts reveal the deeper meaning or purpose of this emotion?”
Step 4 – Emotional Insight
"What is this emotion trying to teach me about my needs, values, or boundaries?"
Connect the experience to emotional literacy. Write a full paragraph exploring the message behind the feeling.
Reflection Prompt: “How can recognizing this lesson help me respond more skillfully in the future?”
Step 5 – Intentional Response
"What is one small, mindful action I could take next time this emotion appears?"
Consider grounding techniques, journaling, pause-and-breathe moments, or conscious communication. Write a paragraph describing the action and how it would help you respond with awareness rather than react automatically.
Reflection Prompt: “How does practicing this response build my emotional literacy and self-awareness?”
